The PADI Project Aware Fish Identification course helps you answer the questions you ask your self “What was that”, this course is designed to teach you the basics so the next time your scuba diving you know the answer.
You’ll will find that recognizing the different fish and creatures makes scuba diving more fun. We will teach you the main fish families and there characteristic to help you decipher the species. You can also check the marine reference library at ScubaEarth which will help you identifying different fish family’s.
For example, a Butterfly fish in the Caribbean has a similar shape to a butterfly fish in Southeast Asia but there colours and marking may be different. If you know which family the fish belong to it makes it much easier to look up the name of the local fish. During the two dives you will learn how to identify the local fish by there characteristics in to family’s and species.
What Scuba Equipment will I need? Apart from the basic scuba equipment you will want a slate to help you record the fish that you see plus a fish identification slate for the area you are diving if available.
This one day course starts at 7.00am with pick up from you hotel (Lamai), with a short drive to the pier to Bophut or Bangrak. The boat leaves at 8.00am to Koh Tao or Sail Rock and we return to Koh Samui 2.00pm (Sail Rock) 4.00pm (Koh Tao).
