Q. Scuba diving sounds awesome, but can I try it without signing up for a course?
Absolutely! If you are unsure as to how you feel about scuba diving, why not join us for the Discover Scuba Diving experience? This takes place in the swimming pool and will show you what it is really like to breathe underwater. If you find that you enjoy it, you are more than welcome to join us on the Open Water course which will teach you everything you need to know to be safe underwater.
Q. Is learning to dive difficult?
Learning to dive is a lot easier than you may imagine. If you already feel comfortable in the water you already have a huge advantage over most people. Whichever beginner’s course you choose to take to learn to scuba dive you will be taught everything you need to know about scuba diving. This includes how to breathe underwater, scuba diving hand signals, how to assemble your equipment and safety techniques. We are happy to answer any questions you may have along the way.
Q. What is it like to dive in Koh Samui?
Although Lamai Scuba Divers is based in Koh Samui all of the diving takes place around the shores of Koh Tao – just a short boat ride away. The diving is spectacular for ten months of the year, with the visibility decreasing in the rainy season from November to January. There are numerous dive sites available suitable for divers of every type of experience and we choose the dive sites based on where you would like to go. With an abundance of corals and sea life we can guarantee that you will absolutely love to dive in the Gulf of Thailand.
Q. I am an experienced diver. Why should I consider diving with Lamai Scuba Divers?
Although diving in the Gulf of Thailand is ideal for beginners there are a number of dive sites that are reserved for experienced divers only. Places like Sail Rock, Chumphon Pinnacle and Southwest Pinnacle are deep sites, where spectacular marine life can be seen. Recent sightings include whale sharks, turtles and reef sharks.
Q. How old do I need to be to scuba dive with Lamai Scuba Divers?
To embark on the Junior Open Water course you need to be at least ten years old. At this age you are responsible enough to dive to depths of 12 metres when accompanied by a parent, guardian or PADI instructor. When you are 15 you can embark on the PADI Open Water course which enables you to dive up to 18 metres. Children under the age of 10 are more than welcome to practice breathing underwater in our swimming pool sessions and complete the PADI bubble maker course.
Q. What equipment do I need?
When diving with Lamai Scuba Divers we will provide you with all the equipment that you need at no extra charge. If you do decide to purchase your own equipment we recommend that the most important piece of equipment to buy is the mask and snorkel, followed by a pair of fins. A mask and snorkel can be used for other fun activities whilst on vacation in Koh Samui, and they also fit better when worn by only one individual. If you do not already own these pieces of equipment please visit our shop for cheap equipment.
Q. How much does it cost to dive with Lamai Scuba Divers?
This depends on whether you are signing up for fun dives or whether you would like to complete a course. In order to fun dive all divers need to have completed their Open Water course. For two fun dives the price is from 4,500 baht, for course prices please visit our course pricing page.
Q. What is included?
When you choose to dive with Lamai Scuba Divers you will feel like a VIP for the day. All prices include equipment, swimming pool training sessions, training material, free transfer from your hotel to the boat and back, food and beverages. Unlike the other dive schools on Koh Samui we also offer one to one instruction at no extra cost to you.
